South Philly resident Stephanie Gambone, president and CEO of Junior Achievement of Southeastern PA, has been selected as a finalist for the Karl Flemke Pioneer Achievement Award for 2024. The accolade is presented to first-time Junior Achievement presidents who have demonstrated exceptional contributions and accomplishments within the organization. The award ceremony will take place during the Junior Achievement USA National Leadership Conference in Kansas City, July 15-18. Gambone was selected along with five other finalists.

“Growing up in Philadelphia as the child of teen parents and a first-generation college student, I know firsthand the transformative impact of opportunity,” Gambone said. “When I was 22, I had an experience that changed my perspective and I realized I was meant to ensure young people have access to opportunities.”

Under Gambone’s leadership, JA SEPA has created and implemented a strategic planning initiative to assess its areas of impact and potential, allowing it to reach more under-resourced communities. Notable achievements include aligning with the School District of Philadelphia Career Connected Learning System, expanding opportunities for middle and high school students across the region, and having a local student-run company compete globally and preparing for the launch of a mobile financial literacy initiative.

“When I joined Junior Achievement of Southeastern Pennsylvania two years ago, I was able to continue working in service of young people across the region,” Gambone said. “Every step I take is driven by a profound sense of purpose and urgency, rooted in the belief that our youth deserve the best. I am humbled to lead JA SEPA alongside an amazing Board, a rockstar team and the best partners in PA. It takes a village, and I am grateful for mine. While I may be a Flemke finalist, this recognition belongs to the whole JA SEPA family.”

Gambone also focused on strengthening the Board of Directors. Through innovative strategies and dedication, Gambone has led JA SEPA to success, leaving an indelible impact on the organization as a whole.

“We are thrilled for Stephanie being a finalist for this well-deserved award, as her remarkable accomplishments serve as an inspiring example for all emerging JA executives,” said Jack E. Kosakowski, president and CEO of Junior Achievement USA. “At Junior Achievement, our mission is to empower students in bridging the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world application. Stephanie’s exceptional achievements embody the spirit of our organization, and we are proud to recognize her significant contributions.”

Gambone emphasized the collective effort behind winning the award.

“Being a finalist for this award is a tremendous honor, and it reflects the hard work and dedication of the exceptional staff and board of directors at JA SEPA,” Gambone said. “With their unwavering support, alongside our invaluable volunteers, donors and educators, I am confident that we will continue to witness significant growth and empower young individuals to take ownership of their future economic success, plan for their future and make informed academic and economic decisions.”
